What is Compensation for Personal Expenses?


If something goes wrong with your holiday and it is the fault of your UK tour operator, amongst the various things you can claim for are personal expenses – or "out of pocket expenses" as they are sometimes known.

Personal expenses include any additional costs that you have incurred as a result of the travel company’s negligence. In personal injury claims those costs may include additional taxi charges for transport to the hospital, the cost of damaged clothes and the insurance policy excess for any medical treatment you have received.

Other examples of out of pocket expenses include additional telephone calls associated with resolving your problems and additional accommodation costs if, for example, you have needed to extend your stay.

If your holiday was completely ruined, you may be able to claim back the costs incurred in advance of travelling such as airport parking and the transport costs associated with getting to and from the airport. You may also be able to claim back more unusual costs such as kennel charges and child minding costs.
