Sickness reports at the Holiday Village Menorca in Cala’n Bosch

We are hearing reports of holidaymakers who have recently returned from the Holiday Village Menorca suffering from sickness, diarrhoea and fever.

The hotel is offered for sale in the UK by one of the UK’s leading tour operators First Choice holidays, part of the TUI UK Limited group of companies.

First Choice advertises this hotel as a family friendly hotel with ‘4 pools, a kids' paddling pool and Son Xoriguer Beach close by. First Choice state that this Holiday Village is made for water babies.

First Choice boasts about the facilities, activities and numerous pools available at the complex. As part of its advertising it states: ‘There are 4 big pools divvied up into quiet and activity areas. The main one’s crossed by a bridge, and comes with a raised whirlpool bath to one side. Kids have got their own paddling spot, which comes complete with a palm-tree fountain, mini-slides and a tipping bucket. ‘Everything here’s family-sized – including the roomy apartments. Activities are geared up for families, too – think raft-building, an Aerial Adventure course, and swim and stage academies’.

The general feedback appears to be that whilst the facilities are amazing and many holidaymakers have been impressed by the level of family activities, the general hygeine at the Holiday Village Menorca is lacking and could be improved.

Hygiene Concerns

A drop in hygiene levels can cause bacterial infections such as Salmonella, Cryptosporidium and campylobacter. If basic hygiene practices are not being followed things can quickly turn nasty and illness can spread amongst hotel occupants resulting in family holidays being ruined.

There are numerous reports on Trip Advisor from holidaymakers whom have had their holiday ruined as a result of becoming unwell with symptoms such as sickness, diarrhoea, nausea and fever.

TripAdvisor Reviews

We understand from reading recent Trip Advisor reviews and from general feedback that the following have caused concern with holidaymakers whom have recently returned from the Holiday Village:

  • Seafood was being left out in hot temperatures and not put onto a bed of ice
  • Food was on occasion undercooked
  • The pool was not as clean as it could have been
  • The toilets by the poolside were unclean and needed more regular reviews as they smelt and the floors were often wet and slippery
  • Hand sanatisers were not always being used
  • Some children had to be hospitalised and placed on to drips
  • Numerous holidaymakers were suffering with similar symptoms

Tour operators selling package holidays such as First Choice have a duty to ensure that hygiene standards are kept at an acceptable level. As a holidaymaker you should expect a certain level of quality to be maintained, especially when you are booking and travelling to what is advertised as a 4 star family friendly hotel.

Tour Operator Complaints

It is unacceptable for a tour operator to send their customers to locations and hotels where their health and well-being may be put at risk. If you have experienced illness, diarrhoea, food poisoning, waterborne infections that didn’t just ruin your holiday enjoyment but is having a lasting affect on your health since your return home, then you may be able to make a claim for compensation.

This tour operator offers and advertises numerous Holiday Villages in many popular holiday destinations. The companies profile is extensive and includes Holiday Villages in Majorca, Turkey, the Costa Del Sol, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Cyprus, Greece, the Algarve and Egypt.

This is not the first time we have received reports of illness at the popular Holiday Village hotels. If you have been affected by ill health following a holiday at any of the First Choice Holiday Villages then we would urge you to get in contact as you may be entitled to thousands of pounds in compensation as a result of your ruined holiday.
