Christmas cancelled by illness at the Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort in Egypt

Illness returns to the Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort

Whilst most of us in the UK endured a wet and windy Christmas in 2013, many Brits decided that Christmas in the sun would be a better option for the festive period. Thousands of winter sunseekers headed to destinations such as the Caribbean including the Dominican Republic and Cuba as well as resorts in Egypt, Turkey and the Mediterranean.

Sadly, many holidaymakers have had their Christmas ruined by illness. Travel lawyers at Simpson Millar are aware of an illness outbreak occurring at the Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort in Hurghada, Egypt and have been speaking to several people about their experiences at the hotel.

Poor Hygiene conditions causes Sickness Bug

Holidaymakers who stayed at the Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort during December 2013 reported a number of serious hygiene concerns. The reports received by Simpson Millar included undercooked food being served in the hotel’s main restaurant and birds flying freely around the children’s section pecking away at the food. Most concerning of all were the reports of sewage water being used to water the hotel gardens. One concerned mother contacted Simpson Millar to say that her two year old son had been hospitalised and put on a drip for three days of their holiday due to contracting a severe gastric illness.
