Ruined Holidays on the Increase at Luxury Hotel in Mexico – Barcelo Maya Beach

The luxury hotel, Barcelo Maya Beach in Mexico which is often visited by families and couples for special occasions has had some unfavourable reviews on the popular hotel review website, Tripadvisor.

Quality Issues At Hotel

A number of reviewers have been required to request room changes as a result of problems faced from broken air-conditioning to shabby and tired looking rooms. A number of the hotel restaurants were also closed throughout the holiday with no food being available between certain times for all-inclusive guests. Worst still, guests were instead told to go to the snack back for their meals or to order room service by management. The resort was also described by one as ‘gloomy and sports an older 80’s design and layout…prepare to be shocked at the size and crowds.‘

The hotel also seemed to be a construction zone due to there being no lighting in the corridors and building work being carried out, which caused major noise and disruption up until 9:30 pm every night.

For one disappointed bride, a number of changes were made by the hotel leading up to her wedding day.

Look Out For Brochure Descriptions and Photographs – Are They A True Reflection?

Tour Operators Thomson and Virgin Holidays feature the 4 star hotel, which is described as being surrounded by a private pristine beach and tropical gardens. Their brochures also highlight that the hotel has over 5 restaurants and 7 bars, 2 swimming pools and a number of facilities from a Fitness Centre to a Spa including a Kids Club for children amongst many others.

Brochures and websites highlight all the facilities and amenities the hotel has to offer, however it can often be found that many hotels do not in fact feature all of these to the standard advertised. Whether that being because certain amenities are no longer in use or building work is being carried out, holidaymakers should be provided with accurate hotel descriptions and be fully informed of hotel facilities/amenities that are available at the hotel before booking.
