Melia Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba Falls Below Guest Expectations

Avoiding The Buffet

Thomas Cook has rated this hotel as being a 4 star which boasts a variety of different restaurants and bars to dine in. However, a burst of bad reviews describe the hotel as offering raw and undercooked food which was covered in flies. Birds were described as leaving waste all over the tables and chairs in the restaurant, which makes it no surprise that many people suffered some form of illness during their stay. One reviewer describes how he found big cockroaches in the bread rolls and his partner having found a cockroach in her orange juice. Another explained that their bedding was not changed for the entire two weeks they were on holiday which was bad enough but stains were also found on the sheets upon arrival. It was also found that there was no vegetarian option at the food buffet and all meat was often handled with the same tongs.

Further reviews go on to list many other problems that guests faced. Some of which criticised the poor conditions of the rooms, leaving one guest who paid for an upgraded room to be faced with rain leaking from the ceiling and rust on the bathtub. There were also disruptions from the building works that were being carried out on a number of bungalows with material being left on pathways.

Hotel standards and health and safety standards differ abroad and in the UK, so holidaymakers are advised to be weary of the standards that they are expected to receive when booking a holiday. If hotel standards are not as described in the brochure it is recommended that legal advice is sought straight away.
