Turkey Holiday Horror Ends in £2,750 Legal Win

Serious Holiday Illness Bug

A holidaymaker who experienced a serious illness after holidaying in Turkey has been awarded £2,750 by her Tour Operator in an ‘out of court’ settlement.

Mrs Emery returned home from the Club Tarhan Didim in Altinkum, Turkey after having been struck down with a severe gastric stomach illness. Further investigation by her GP in the UK revealed that she had picked up the protozoa parasite Cryptosporidium, a tiny bug that can be passed to the stomach through the consumption of contaminated food or water.

Successful Illness Compensation Settlement

In Mrs Emery’s case it became apparent following obtaining medical evidence that she had contracted the Cryptosporidium bug either through the dirty swimming pool water or through contaminated drinking water she had consumed while staying at the Club Tarhan Hotel.

A compensation settlement of £2,750 was agreed following negotiations between the Tour Operator and Simpson Millar’s expert holiday illness claims solicitors.

James Blower, Simpson Millar’s Senior Holiday Claims Specialist, says: “Under the 1992 Package Travel Regulations holidaymakers are protected when they book a package holiday. If illness strikes and can be linked to poor hygiene at their holiday resort then the package holiday tour operator is responsible for the failings in those standards and the holidaymakers can pursue a claim for holiday illness compensation.”

“We were happy to take on Mrs Emery’s case and pursue it on her behalf as she had experienced a severe Cryptosporidium illness while on a package holiday in Turkey.”

Should holidaymakers feel they have fallen foul of poor hygiene standards at their holiday hotel and have suffered illness as a result of this then they are advised to contact Simpson Millar’s Travel Team to discuss their potential holiday illness compensation claim.
