£5,000 plus for couple ill with gastroenteritis at the Red Sea Holiday Village, Egypt

When a couple expecting a baby booked a 7-night, all-inclusive package holiday through TUI UK Ltd, they did not imagine what a nightmare it would turn out to be as a result of gastroenteritis contracted at the Red Sea Holiday Village in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

However, as they had booked a package holiday with First Choice Holidays – part of the TUI holiday group of tour operators – they were able to make a compensation claim under the 1992 Package Travel Regulations against their travel company.

Claiming Compensation for Red Sea Holiday Village Illness

The first of our holiday makers became ill with symptoms of stomach cramps, diarrhoea, tiredness and fatigue – and she became worried. At the time of the holiday she was pregnant and did not know how the illness might affect her baby.

Her husband also fell ill and suffered symptoms of diarrhoea, cramps and tiredness.

On their return home from the Red Sea Holiday Village, they contacted Simpson Millar, who prepared details of their claim and also arranged a report from a consultant gastroenterologist.

The medical report confirmed that they had suffered from moderately severe infective gastroenteritis – and because of the known incubation period for such infections, the medical report suggested it was beyond any doubt that the Red Sea Holiday Village was the source of the infective outbreak.
